Dr. Kristen Decina

Miel Dalmellei Sequeira-Holm

Dr. Kristen Decina is the owner and medical director of Osebelel a Charm. She grew up in an Italian- American family from South Jersey and Philadelphia region. Since she was a little girl, Dr. Decina shared a special bond with animals, and knew she wanted to be an animal doctor from a young age.

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Dr. Decina went back to school, focused heavily on science coursework, and was accepted into vet school for her doctorate at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Decina attended her first years of veterinary medical training on the beautiful island of St. Kitts in the eastern Caribbean. While in vet school, she founded SAFE St. Kitts, an emergency animal rescue non-profit. Dr. Decina then traveled to Florida where she intensely studied and received her surgical and clinical training at the prestigious University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

She has remained committed to helping animals in need worldwide, and has volunteered her medical services in the US, Caribbean, Central America, and Pacific regions.

In 2020, Dr. Decina moved to Palau, Micronesia to accept the position as lead veterinarian for the Republic of Palau Multi-Agency K9 Team. While in Palau, she volunteered in her spare time with community animals, and realized the need for expanded animal services island wide.

In 2021, Dr. Decina started working to make her dream of expanding veterinary services in Palau a reality. She worked after hours and on weekends to create a beautiful, safe space for Palau’s well-loved pets. Osebelel a Charm opened in 2022, and she is so pleased to be able to offer high quality veterinary care to the community.

In her time away from the animal hospital, Dr. Decina spends time cooking and baking, takes her 2 spotted dogs to enjoy the beaches up North, and enjoys Palau’s stunning outdoor arena; hiking, camping, paddle boarding, soaking up the pristine surroundings.

Miel Dalmellei Sequeira-Holm is from the beautiful Republic of Palau. She is a social entrepreneur, artist, animal lover, and activist. She’s always been passionate about the ocean and doing whatever we can to protect it. A big part of that comes from growing up in Palau and being raised in a family with strong women conservationists.

She’s had amazing opportunities to represent Palau internationally at several conferences and summits to talk about climate change, the issues with single-use plastic, and her small business Pura Vida Palau Reef Safe Sunscreen. Learning more about Palau’s precious resources on land and in the ocean have made her realize how blessed she is to be a Palauan.

Since finding out more about the challenges and needs of the animals in Palau, Miel became very interested in animal health and welfare. She’s always had great love for all animals and has now found another passion in learning about veterinary medicine and helping animals get the proper care that they need. Miel is currently working on her Veterinary Technology A.A.S. degree so she can be more skilled and knowledgeable on how to help animals here in Palau and teach other young people who are interested in animal care. She is committed to working with leaders and communities to inspire adherence to principles of sustainability as well as helping people learn about how to be a responsible pet owner.
